Cambridge police are looking for a man who sexually assaulted a woman near Porter Square – CBS Boston

CAMBRIDGE (CBS) – Police are searching for a man who sexually assaulted a woman near the Porter Exchange shopping center in Cambridge on Wednesday. It happened around 8:40 a.m. on Roseland Street.

A 47-year-old Somerville woman told police she felt someone approach her quickly. As she tried to get out of the way, a man pulled up her skirt and “aggressively” grabbed her.

Cambridge Police said when the woman turned to confront the man, he fled. She was unable to give a description of the suspect.

Police released a short surveillance video of the fleeing man. He wore a light colored shirt and a dark backpack.

Anyone in the area who has video from around 8.40am on Wednesday is asked to call Cambridge Police.

“It’s really unusual, I think, for this part of Cambridge,” said resident Betsy Grove. “I live near here and walk around the neighborhood all the time and we consider it very safe.”

Police are urging everyone in the neighborhood to be mindful of their surroundings.

“I hope they find it soon because I never want that to happen to me or anyone else in this neighborhood,” Avanti Vemuri said.
