Fans who were hoping Chris Rock would talk at length about Will Smith slapping him at the Oscars on Sunday may have been disappointed Wednesday night at his first show since the Boston incident.
In leaked audio from the sold-out show, Rock can be heard saying “I don’t have a lot of s — to say about this.”
He joked with the crowd that he wrote his last stand-up show long before the Oscars and said, “I’m still processing what happened.”
According to an NBC News reporter on the show, Rock received several standing ovations. He started by asking “So how was your weekend?”, prompting laughter from the crowd.
Rock followed up with his prepared material saying “I’m just gonna tell jokes” and telling the audience that “at some point I’m going to talk about this s—“
Ticket sales prices for Rock’s comedy tour have skyrocketed in secondary markets since Sunday. StubHub, a ticket exchange and resale company, said it saw daily sales of Rock’s shows 25 times in the days following the Oscars incident, surpassing the comedian’s cumulative tour sales for the entire March.
On Monday, Smith took to social media to formally apologize to Rock, calling his behavior “unacceptable and inexcusable.” He previously apologized to the Academy and his fellow nominees during his Best Actor acceptance speech on Sunday.
