Liverpool welcomed Elche owner Christian Bragarnik to Kirkby last week to discuss a potential and exciting link between the two clubs.
The Reds owners have big plans for the future. They acquired the Pittsburgh Penguins ice hockey team from the NHL in late November. And Fenway Sports Group, which saw the value of its empire increase by £2.3bn in 2022, is set to continue growing.
The American company tempted by the Brazilian company Cruzeiro in November, but failed.
FSG now has the Reds, Penguins, Boston Red Sox baseball team and RFK Racing NASCAR team as sporting assets. But FSG and Liverpool chairman Tom Werner has hinted more is to come as they look to exploit their partnership with LeBron James.
Speaking to Forbes earlier this year, Werner said: “(Owning an NBA team) is definitely something we would look into. We don’t have a secret paper that says “let’s get an NBA team.”
“LeBron James has made no secret that at some point he would like to be involved in ownership. And he’s a great partner, so we’ll see how that goes.
But in the meantime, Reds officials have traveled to southeastern Spain to visit the La Liga 14th-placed Elche club. According to Onda Cero, a few weeks ago, a delegation from Anfield traveled to Alicante to ‘see firsthand the facilities, the work and the business project’.
And last week Bragarnik was invited to Liverpool to do the same at the Premier League club.
Liverpool considering ‘different formulas’
AS say the Argentine ‘took advantage’ of a break in the fixture list to visit Anfield. And he also attended the clash between Arsenal and Manchester United at the Emirates.
But his main goal was to work with liverpool to talk about “different formulas” for a collaboration between the two clubs.
The idea is for Elche to benefit from Liverpool’s fringe players. Thus, loan deals could be agreed between clubs for youth players and players out of the first team picture at Anfield.
While Liverpool would benefit from taking the most talented players from Elche in a bid to add value. And or develop them as players capable of playing at the highest European level.
the Onda Cero report says Elche ‘has started an exchange of contacts’. But so far, there has been no agreement or official announcement.
