Newtown Florist Club to Release Black Business Directory

Angela Middleton, who was the project coordinator, said she was able to gather information on around 170 black-owned businesses, entrepreneurs, community resources and churches. Middleton said they still hope to contact several more before the directory is released.

“We would like minority businesses to be highlighted so that they can continue to grow and prosper,” Middleton said. “We want to facilitate access to locate minority businesses as well as the resources we have in this area. “

Through the development of the project, Middleton said she was excited to discover the range of businesses started by young entrepreneurs across the region.

“We started to realize that ‘Oh my God, there is so much more going on here than we even thought’ and the number of young people starting businesses, who had ideas on how to start a business,” said Johnson said. “It became a pretty exciting process to go through, so we just kept going.”

Johnson said she hoped the directory’s publication “will inspire others who have wanted to start a business to think more about the possibility of doing so nowadays.”
