PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN AMREF AND AFRICA CDC

The Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), a specialized technical agency of the African Union (AU), has partnered with Amref Health Africa in pursuit of its vision, mission and goals strategic. The ultimate objective of this partnership is to redefine Africa’s health security strategy in order to improve public health systems on the African continent and in the global community by extension. This collaboration aims to achieve, but is not limited to, the following:

  1. Develop and strengthen health systems in Africa.
  2. Improve and strengthen African response capacity to public health emergencies.
  3. Strengthen the Regional Integrated Surveillance and Laboratory Networks (RISLNET) in Africa.
  4. Facilitate programmatic and scientific collaboration for the benefit of Member States.
  5. Facilitate the improvement and strengthening of programmatic and technical capacities through the deployment of human resources.
  6. Facilitate and strengthen private sector engagement in Africa’s health sector and other partnerships regarding workforce development, emergency response and public health networks.

This partnership aims to strengthen the capacity of Africa CDC to improve public health systems across Africa, improve the continent’s preparedness to respond to disease threats, including the ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic. 19. This will be achieved through building the capacity of Africa CDC’s five Regional Coordinating Centers (RCCs) to help the continent respond to health emergencies at the point of need, amplifying the capabilities and reach of the headquarters team in all strategic pillars.

OBJECTIVE OF THE JOB

Under the direct supervision and guidance of the Division Manager, Emergency Preparedness and Response (EPR), the Technical Officer – African Volunteer Health Corps (AVoHC) will carry out a variety of technical and management and implementation activities. implementation of programs in the area of ​​hemispheric security, regional and national workforce development for health emergency response through the AVoHC program.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with the AVoHC Program Manager/Officer and Africa CDC Management and Administration Division to define the strategy for building and maintaining the AVoHC list.
  • Perform management of African Volunteer Health Corps (AVoHC) online database directory and deployment of Emergency Response Teams (ERTs).
  • Participate in interview panels for potential rapid responders (RRs).
  • Define the rapid responder performance management strategy during deployment and ensure the strategy is properly implemented by Regional Coordination Center (RCC) staff.
  • Work with the EPR Division Knowledge, Data and Research Management team to create a library of best practices and lessons learned from AVoHC operations.
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the AVoHC Program Manager.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Academic Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in public health, epidemiology, health sciences, health services research or related health discipline with two (2) years of relevant experience

Or

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, epidemiology, medicine, health sciences, health services research or related health discipline with five (5) years of relevant experience.

Professional experience required

  • Experience in supporting the implementation of public health programs related to emergency preparedness activities.
  • Demonstrable experience and knowledge of Africa CDC operations and Regional Focal Points.
  • Demonstrable experience and knowledge of African Health Volunteer Corps operations is a valuable asset.
  • Understanding of how the African Union works and manages association relations with Member States and partners is a valuable asset.
  • Experience of engaging and interacting with senior officials and other key stakeholders in public and private sector organizations.
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team and personal qualities of integrity and credibility

Language requirements

REMUNERATION

For internationally recruited staff, the indicative base salary is USD 35,044.83 (P2 step 5) per annum plus other related entitlements including post adjustment (46% of base salary) , a housing allowance of USD 22,932.00 (per year) and a gratuity (15% of gross salary).

For locally recruited staff, the indicative base salary is USD 35,044.83 (P2 step 5) per annum plus other related entitlements including post adjustment (46% of base salary), allowance housing of USD 6,879.60 (per year) and pension (15% of gross salary).
